The Law of Assumption Explained: How to Use It to Manifest Anything!

August 11, 202610 min read

If you have ever noticed that some desires seem to find you with ease while others take the scenic route through three counties, the Law of Assumption is where it all starts to make sense.

Of every universal law I teach, this is the one that changes how women manifest everything, because it moves manifestation out of wishing and into being. So let me walk you through the Law of Assumption: where it came from, what the research actually shows, and exactly how to use it in your real, busy, beautiful life.

What Is the Law of Assumption?

The Law of Assumption says that whatever you accept as true, deep down, becomes the blueprint your life organises itself around. Neville Goddard, the teacher most associated with it, wrote that

An assumption, though false, if persisted in, will harden into fact.

Notice the word hardens, it describes something setting into place, the way concrete sets, or the way a language becomes so native to you that you stop translating and simply think in it.

Here is the part I love. You are already using the Law of Assumption. Every. Single. Day. You assume the kettle will boil, you assume your friend will text back, you assume you are "someone money comes easily to" or "always the one who has to work twice as hard." Those assumptions feel like facts because they have been running for so long, and they are conclusions your mind drew once and never re-examined. The law is neutral, it builds from whatever you hand it. It does not check whether the belief is flattering, or fair, or even true. It just gets to work.

Which means the woman who assumes abundance is normal for her and the woman who assumes struggle is normal for her are both being proven right, every day, by the same law.

Where the Law of Assumption Came From

This one surprises people, Neville came to this as a working performer, a Barbadian dancer who sailed to New York at seventeen and headlined real theatres in New York, London, Berlin and Paris. Then the Great Depression arrived and in 1929 he walked away from dancing for good. He was broke, out of work, and studying under a teacher called Abdullah, an Ethiopian Jewish scholar in 1930s New York who taught him Kabbalah and a symbolic reading of the Bible. He studied for the best part of seven years before he gave his first public lecture in 1938. Everything he later taught, he tested on himself while he had nothing.

The best part… the foundation he was standing on was something older. New Thought, the tradition where all of this comes from, was named and organised by a woman called Emma Curtis Hopkins, who taught almost every man who later got famous for it. She was known as the teacher of teachers. So a woman built the room, and the lads got their names on the door. And that’s a hell yes for manifesting is a woman’s thing 🤗

How the Law of Assumption Fits With the Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction became famous through The Secret, the 2006 film and the 30 million copies of the book that followed. The idea is that like attracts like, so you raise your energy to match what you desire and it makes its way to you. Plenty of women stop there, but the Law of Assumption is the magic of manifesting with ease.

Attraction has you calling something in, which keeps it over there, on its way, still separate from you. Assumption starts from the position that it is already yours and removes the distance altogether. Attraction feels like reaching, assumption feels like resting. And I know which one I would rather be doing on a Wednesday night.

What the Research Actually Shows

In 1995, researchers at Harvard Medical School taught volunteers a simple one-handed piano exercise. One group sat at the keys and practised it two hours a day for five days. The second group never touched the piano. They sat in front of it and ran the finger movements through their minds, same two hours, same five days.

At the end, brain scans showed the same result in both groups: the area of the motor cortex controlling those fingers had physically grown, and to the same extent. One of those groups never moved a finger, and their brains changed anyway 🤯 That is what your imagination is doing every night!

This is what a guided meditation or a visualisation practice is actually doing. You sit down, you run the scene on purpose, and your brain treats it as rehearsal for something real.

Then there is the bank that collapsed because of a rumour. In 1948, sociologist Robert Merton described a perfectly healthy bank, no trouble with its money at all, until a false rumour spread that it was about to go under. Frightened customers queued around the block to pull their savings out, and within days the bank had failed. The rumour was untrue right up until the moment everyone acted on it, and then it was true. This is where the term self-fulfilling prophecy comes from.

Your assumptions work exactly the same way. The one that says money is hard for you was never a fact, it was a conclusion, and then you started living as though it was. An assumption does not need to be true to start producing results. It only needs you to act as though it is.

So when Neville says to assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled, understand what you are actually doing. You are rehearsing!

And rehearsal in the mind produces measurable change in the body that has to carry the result. Your nightly practice is building the woman who can hold what you are asking for.

The People Who Lived It

Lady Gaga, before anyone knew her name, repeated the same line to herself: music is my life, the fame is inside of me, I'm going to make a number one record. Read that middle part again, she spoke as though the fame already lived inside her, already hers to carry. That is the Law of Assumption in a sentence. She also visualised herself performing at Madison Square Garden, and she did exactly that in 2011.

Oprah decided she would play Sofia in The Colour Purple before the film had even been announced. She has said she prayed, visualised, and believed the role was already meant for her. She was cast, and it earned her an Academy Award nomination.

Jim Carrey wrote himself a cheque for ten million dollars in 1990, marked it for acting services rendered, post-dated it five years, and kept it in his wallet. Every night he drove up into the hills above Los Angeles and spoke about himself as a working actor everyone wanted. Just before that date in 1995, he was paid exactly ten million dollars for Dumb and Dumber.

Carrey performed in the comedy clubs, Oprah auditioned, Gaga sang in every small room that would have her. The assumption came first and the action followed naturally, which is exactly the order it is meant to happen in. This is the E in my JADEN Method, engage with inspired action, and inspired is the word that matters. Action taken from the assumption that it is already yours feels completely different to action taken while you are still hoping. One is momentum, the other is effort.

And here is mine 🥳

A few years ago I was given notice on my house as the landlord was selling. And this at a time when rental listings were disappearing faster than the chocolate you have been craving all week. So I wrote a list of 14 things my new home would have, then I packed. I filled boxes for a house I had not found yet, and I lived as the woman whose home was already sorted. When we got the keys I counted, and eleven of the fourteen were there. A few months later it was thirteen.

I assumed the house was mine before there was a single shred of evidence, and every box I packed was me acting from that assumption.

How to Use the Law of Assumption to Manifest Anything

Think of it like setting the table for a guest you know is coming. You put out the extra plate, you pour the second glass, you cook enough for two, and you do it all before you hear a single knock at the door, because her arrival was never in question. That is the energy of assumption. You are not hovering at the window checking the driveway every five minutes.

Here is how to practise it:

1. Decide what is now true. Choose the assumption deliberately and word it in the present. "Money comes to me easily." "I am the woman clients are drawn to." "My dream home is already mine." One clear sentence, decided by you today. Because that old one, well, you never actually chose it.

2. Rehearse it just before sleep. Neville's own method was to use the drowsy, half-asleep state, when the analysing part of the mind goes still. Run a small, ordinary scene that could only be true if you already had it. Like the Tuesday morning three weeks after the good news, when it has already become normal. This is the same state hypnosis works in, and it is why a hypnosis session can rewire a new assumption in twenty minutes when you have been trying to convince yourself of it, wide awake and arguing back, for months.

3. Live from it in small, real decisions. Assumption shows up in behaviour. Ask yourself throughout the day, "what would I do right now if this were already true?" and then do that thing!

4. Persist past the wobble. Your current reality will keep offering you the old assumption for a while, because that is now a preprogrammed pattern. It is very committed to that old version of you, so bless it, and give it a chance to catch up. When the wobble comes, return to your mantra, return to the feeling, and set the table again 😉 And when the same wobble keeps returning, that is your cue to tap on it. EFT reaches the assumption at the subconscious level, which is where it has been sitting all along.

An assumption is a decision you stop negotiating with.

When the Old Story Comes Back on Thursday

So you choose your new assumption on Monday and it feels completely true all day. By Thursday the old story is back in the room like it never left, and this is a reality for a lot of the women I work with.

But it tells you something useful, which is that the old assumption is not sitting in your conscious mind where you can talk yourself out of it. It is stored in your subconscious, and your subconscious runs the show whether you are paying attention to it or not. Willpower loses that argument every time. Fact!

This is exactly why I created the Abundance Activation Bundle. Twenty one days of hypnosis, EFT tapping, guided meditations, subliminal audios and a recode journal, all working at the level where your assumptions live.

You choose the new one and then the Bundle helps your subconscious take it as fact. It is the natural next step from everything you have just read.

[Start your Abundance Activation here.]

The Law of Assumption is inviting you to decide, and then to let your whole life reorganise itself around that decision, the way everything in a dark room rearranges itself around a single lit candle.
